TAIJIQUAN INSTRUCTOR - Shifu Sophia Szilagyi

Sophia has had an interest and fascination in movement from an early age, studying ballet and other forms of dance intensely for many years. As a professional Visual Artist, she believes movement provides both beauty and sustenance for the body and the mind.

In 2008 Sophia was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and subsequently, on the recommendation of her physiotherapist, she began studying Tai Chi with Shifus Tara Brayshaw and Lily Liang.

Where other forms of exercise exacerbated her symptoms, Tai Chi has helped her maintain and improve her strength and balance. For Sophia, Tai Chi has been life changing inside and outside of class, improving her general cognition and strengthening her ability to calm and focus herself. What started out as an exercise program, has become a way of life. Sophia is now a passionate advocate of Tai Chi and studies it’s many intricacies in depth.

Sophia started teaching Tai Chi and Qigong so she could share the enormous benefits with other people. Her empathetic and inciteful teaching style is unique and we are lucky to have her as part of the team.
