Studio 14 - The Launch of a Dream

For 20 years, Shifu Tara Brayshaw has dreamt of creating a place where instructors, students, friends and colleagues could practice, have a cup of tea or coffee, read, watch videos and "hang out" between classes; a place where they could have a massage or acupuncture session; a place where they could purchase equipment and clothing; a place to meet; a place to do workshops; a place they could call their "Tai Chi Home".

In 2021, prompted by COVID lockdowns, the journey of a lifetime started… renovating a disused warehouse at 14 Pakington Street, St Kilda… turning that 20-year dream into a reality.

After 2 ½ years of work by so many incredible people, we are beyond excited to announce that Tara's dream is open for business. – Studio 14.  The JinLi family now has a purpose-built facility open to anyone who wants to enjoy this amazing space.

Studio 14 incorporates a 10mx20m training hall, change rooms, health clinic, merchandise sales counter and a meeting room. The entire building is accessible for people of all abilities and wherever possible, the building and fitout feature recycled and upcycled materials and furnishings making it a truly unique place to be. All the spaces are available for hire by like-minded organisations offering health, wellbeing, and recreational fitness activities.

The JinLi family celebrated the launch of Studio 14 on Saturday 20th January. The day started with a 10.30am Guided Tour of the building for those people whose time was limited. Shifu Tara guided people around the building explaining its history, the history of the items now housed in it, and answered questions from the captivated tour group.

The afternoon saw a “Dress with Style” High Tea unfold in the Training Hall, that had been suitably decorated with vases of flowers and dressed tea tables. As the day slowly turned into evening, so did the events with the evening featuring a Soiree of beautifully dressed JinLiers sipping champagne, and eating canapes surrounded by candle-light and smooth jazz… the perfect way to launch a dream come true!
